I agree that this has no bearing on DB design.

I think a number of us have been pushing the boundaries of this  
discussion group. It anyone can suggest a more appropriate place, I'm  
sure we'd be happy to decamp.

I don't mean this in a catty way at all. I could understand the  
frustration of someone who saw a database design list taken over by  
UI and philosophical questions.
